What Is A Pound Cake
What Is A Pound Cake. Pound cake is a type of cake traditionally made with a pound of each of four ingredients: flour, butter, eggs, and sugar. Initially, the pound cake weighed four pounds; that rules out the possibility of it being named after its weight.
They are sometimes served either dusted with powdered sugar, lightly glazed, or with a coat of icing.
Oil is used by some to create a more moist pound cake; sour cream is added by others to lend a tang.
Crack each egg, one at a time, and add it to the batter. Take care to mix each egg until no traces of yolk remain before adding the next egg. Cream the butter with a spatula until it's creamy and smooth.
